(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Recently a member was talking about exotic cars in the shoutbox. And the typical brands were mentioned, Lamborghini and Ferrari. The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 was brought up, I will acknowledge that the car can reach speeds of 217 miles per hour. Now without a doubt that is fast, faster than the majority of production cars.

The question is this, what do you consider a supercar?

To me those were once supercars. They may still be radical in design and performance, and the craftsmanship... superb. However they cannot compare to the likes of a Bugatti or Hennessey. Surely millions have heard of Bugatti, but Hennessey, most likely car tuning enthusiast are the only ones who know about Hennessey. Maybe I’m wrong about using the word supercar, could these two companies manufacture the first hypercar or are they already in that league thus leaving behind Ferrari and Lamborghini?

In my opinion, cars like the Lamborghini and Ferrari are supercars and cars like Bugatti and Hennessey are hypercars. I dont know if the term hypercar is really out there much yet but its been used on shows like the British top gear and i think that its a good term because they are just a whole other breed of car. But thats just me...

Cars that I would define 'supercars' are the ones that having racing history. Lamborghinis and Buggatis have no racing history. Don't get me wrong they are beautiful cars (Not the Bugatti), and fast as well, but they are just meant for show nowadays. Rich people who can't drive for shit own them and that makes these cars look like toys, and it's why they are widely known among young people. I am no car enthusiast but do some research and you will come to know of cars that do have racing history and should be known more of as 'supercars' rather than Bugattis and Lamborghinis.

Very good point. Sadly not many people nowadays care for the race history of manufactures. It's just for the looks and the bragging right of owning a Lamborghini and Ferrari. But I must admit I love Ferrari and their racing history especially in Formula 1. :y:

I loved what you said ,I was just going to mention top gear uk but what I learned is that anything that is above 225 mph is a hyper car to me.

Definitely. I heard people talking of Bugatti years ago, and never really cared to look into them because they just didn't look all that good lol. I'm just amazed at how much competition and innovation are being produced by Bugatti and Hennessey, and I got the word hypercar from the British version of Top Gear. :p

Okay first of all Hennessy venom's aren't even their own car they're registered as a "lotus Exige" because it's illegal to channge the Vin number, and in my opinion Bugatti's are just reaching back to their heritage, they're without a doubt a great machine, but in some ways overpriced. What I think defines a supercar is something that looks fast has good cornering capabilities, and can go 200+ Miles Per Hour to me personally that is the true description of a supercar.
