(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Okay, is it hypocritical take tips, but not give tips?

So, when I go out to eat at restaurants, I 99% of the time, don't tip.. Call me a dirtbag I don't care. There's no rule or law or anything that says I have to! But, when I work, I have a tip jar (I work at Dunkin Donuts) and sometimes, people tip me, at the end of my shift, I take the tips.. Now people don't have to tip me either.. But my friends say it's very hypocritical that I take those tips and don't tip when I go out to eat.. Please tell me this is false as I am disagreeing with them.

Posts your thoughts and let me know! I want to show them that I'm not alone on this thought :p.

It's legal for servers to make under minimum wage because the owners calculate that with tips, they will be making minimum wage.

I think it is somewhat hypocritical, only because it's not mandatory to tip a tip jar. I don't care that there is nothing forcing you to tip, tipping a server IS mandatory. It's only right to tip your server for trying to give your great service while they make below minimum wage.

aaaannnnnddddd, stop being a cheap dirtbag.

You are kind of a dirtbag for not tipping. I mean if the service truly was terrible then it's justifiable but if it wasn't then you should give them something. Most of the time they get paid lower than minimum wage so they are making most of their money off of tips. When you don't tip them even when they did a great job serving you, don't expect to get good service if they serve you again.

imo it's not really hypocritical.... but it is messed up not to tip your server/waiter. Servers are paid under minimum wage because they rely on getting tips from their customers, I used to bartend at a burger joint (corner bistro) and honestly tips made up a huge chunk of my paycheck. Dude if you really dislike giving tips just give at least 10% tip (standard is 15%)... if the bill comes out to $20 it's only a $2 tip. Also if it is a group bill just split the tip with everyone.

BUT..... Mr. Pink has other thoughts about tipping :troll:

No it's not hypocritical. You're entitled to not tip, I certainly don't tip like people do in America. Only tip here in proper restaurants and that's only if the service was good, if it was shit you don't get a tip.

Waiters minimum wage is different as they get some many tips which are tax free.

I always leave tip. (In restaurants only) If the waiter/waitress is good I tip generously, if not, then I tip poorly.

I rarely tip people, and when the do they earned it by being phenomenal. The only reason why I don't tip people include the following: they are snobby, rarely walk by the table asking if I need refills etc. But to the point it is hypocritical to take tips but not tip, however as you mentioned there is nothing wrong with not tipping and in the end it comes down to morals.
