What is N-N Dimethyltryptamine?

N-N Dimethyltryptamine is a natural psychedelic compound of the tryptamine family. Its presence is widespread throughout the plant kingdom. DMT occurs in trace amounts in mammals, including humans, where it putatively functions as a trace amine neurotransmitter/neuromodulator. It is originally derived from the essential amino acid tryptophan and ultimately produced by the enzyme INMT during normal metabolism. The significance of its widespread natural presence remains undetermined.

How Does DMT Work?
When ingested, DMT connects to 5HT Seratonin receptors. Depending on the dose and method of administration, its subjective effects can range from short-lived milder psychedelic states to powerful immersive experiences; these are often described as a total loss of connection to conventional reality with the encounter of ineffable spiritual/alien realms.

How Has DMT Been Used?
DMT has been used both recreationally, spiritually, and medically. In South America it is widely used as the liquid ingested form "ayahuasca"

Some Facts/Myths About DMT

• dmt is naturally in our body - TRUE it's found in trace amounts in humans and more heavily in plants.
  
• dmt is synthetic (man made) - FALSE it is very difficult to synthesize it as it's active alkaloid break down easy
  
• dmt occurs in our dreams and when we're born/die - FALSE this was only a theory/skeptecism of Rick Strassman (author of DMT: A Spirit Molecule) and was never proven to be true but nearly a theory.
  

My Opinion:
I believe N-N DMT should be legalized for medical use (in therapy settings) and recreationally in amounts of < 40mg. I also believe it shouldn't be made/distributed without a proper license such as a doctor, therapist, or shaman. I do believe and trust in the fact that DMT holds very spiritually and uplifting abilities. It is both good for the mind and the soul. It can be very introspective and truth telling. But it also isn't for the weak minded, it should be used with cation if legalized and done in the proper format because this is a very mind heavy drug. DMT has been used and proven to help people with cognitive issues, and repressed emotions and problems. I don't see anything wrong with it at all if used in the proper environment.



Now with some basic information given, as well as my opinion. I would like to hear YOUR opinion. Please keep in mind to be open-minded and hear both sides given both pro and con. I want this to be an open clean discussion with all bias removed.

Yes, legalize it. Also every other drug :-) Mainly opiates please.

Every drug has positive affects but the way people choose to use and/or abuse them is why they're illegal in my opinion.

Many drugs have great pharmaceutical purposes which aren't allowed due to the way in which people decide to use these drugs. (ie. Opiates, Cocaine, Morphine/Codeine, LSD ect.)

Final Verdict: Legalize it strictly for medical purposes.
