unfortunately some people like to deny what can so easily be confirmed.
It's a common psychological defense mechanism. Most people don't like to lose arguments, so they end up pulling stuff out of their ass, and eventually the opposing side gives up because they are tired of trying to tell someone the truth who isn't willing to hear it. I can see why many religious people do this. They want so badly for a god to exist so they can feel like what they've done in their life has been an accomplishment, and so forth that they'd be accepted into heaven. If it wasn't the cause for many wars, I'd say it was a good thing for foolish people. It should keep them from doing stupid things.
(On an unrelated note, I also want to say that I'm tired of people picking at lines in the bible to defend their hate of gay marriage. The bible says "You shall not lay with a man the way you lay with a woman", but then right there in Deuteronomy it says "If your wife hath not her virginity, then she shall be slain", basically means that if the person you should take as your wife isn't a virgin, she needs to be killed. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, you religious assholes who do that.)
