I defeated!
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I think a good portion of us are familiar with the whole "My voice sounds different when I see myself in a video or something" phenomenon. I know how all that works, the problem for me is my voice sounds well, retarded and that is not my personal opinion, it literally does. I love the voice I hear through my flesh and bone. It sounds perfectly normal and great and because of that, I have been given a false feeling of speaking properly. Whenever I talk to people, it is common for people to ask "Why I sound so retarded" or "What is up with your voice?". They won't understand what I am saying and the sort. Does screaming have to do with ultimately having a "retarded" sounding voice that people say I have and I have heard my voice through audio problem... it does have issues with it. I talk slow and slurred and yeah... anyway, did I screw myself over? Or do I need speech therapy to help me "speak properly". I am sick and tired of people mocking my voice and I get the strange feeling that people think I'm mentally handicapped when first meeting me because of whole I speak. Really, I keep getting alot of comments. A kid once told me "I look retarded and I speak wrong". It's been a life problem well here is a couple audio tapes of me speaking I was wondering what you guys thought of it. Like how bad is it and be honest please... Also, is there anything I can do about it?

You don't sound retarded in the least little bit. At least not in my opinion. What Resist said earlier hit the nail on the head. People bully other people to hide their own insecurities. Everyone has something to be self-conscious about, if someone says they don't, they are lying. If someone points it out to you, just tell em, "So what. Get over it." I learned to do that shortly after entering High School. I am 6ft 260lbs. Not gonna lie, most of it isn't muscle, lol. My friends all know me and don't care how much I weigh, and occasionally people I don't know just flat out tell me "your fat." My response is "so what?" Often I joke about it myself and comeback with "I'm a hell of a lot warmer in the winter than you are Happy"

Figuring he's disabled and talks really slow I don't know if I should. People have said that to me before and it's really embarrassing.

I did not mean to give you a bad feeling with my comment,
I have the same when i hear myself on a video, and i understand how it feels to hear yourself on tape...
Anyway after rereading my comment, i've seen its not a helping/supporting comment.... Im sorry
Just try to be yourself, and dont give a damn about what other people think!

Lol people would usually say that my voice is too deep for my age and laugh about it. They ask for my age and when they hear that I'm 16 they're surprised, when I'm on PSN ppl think I'm a 26 year old based on my voice, it happens in real life too, people would sometimes laugh after they hear me say something because I sound like I'm an all grown up thug. I hear myself clearly I do not think it's too deep and what do I care about it? It's not like your views of the world change, if you need to, practice your speech at home to manipulate your voice to sound the way you want using those audio recorders.

Worth the Weight
Look, people (okay, 99.9% of the time during school) are going to be making fun of you one way or another. Whether it be you entering into a relationship with someone, or you sounding different (you don't sound different at all to me, at all. Frankly I found your voice much better to listen to if compared to most of the other people who I have to deal with in my life). The problem is, you have to understand that no matter whoever tries to tell you that you are "mentally handicapped" is a much weaker person than you are. I will tell it to you honestly, the best way that you can beat these people is to not make fun of them back, or get back at them in petty ways. Similarly to me in my situation, the best way to get back at people is to sit down and work hard. Ignore it, but don't forget it. It will make you a much better person in the long run if you take these lessons with you, because when you see your friends doing something like this to someone else, you can stop them and educate them. Because you have to realize this, in 10 years, the "retarded kid with the funny voice" is going to have a nice house and a family, while they are stuck making fun of people for the rest of their lives. Ultimately what people think about your voice now is irrelevant, focus more on the things that really matter. Don't let people tell you what you are/can do, you'll build up your confidence more if you keep your head up.

I know how you feel man... When I was younger my own parents made me take speech classes over and over again, even though the speech lady said I pronounced my words fine, I just spoke too fast. Because of me talking too fast and combined with a deep voice it's hard to understand me sometimes. People always ask me what a say over and over again. I feel your pain bro. :(
