(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Just wondering what you all think. I live in Inverness, Scotland and it's constantly being mentioned in newspapers and on TV, radio etc. People are voting this September on whether or not Scotland should be an independent country, if the majority vote is yes then Scotland will be completely seperate from the UK by March 2016 (not geographically, obviously). Personally, I'm completely against it, I don't feel Scotland will have a rich enough economy to sustain the current standard of living which is enjoyed while being part of the UK.

Thought I would leave this here too. :p

"As an independent member state, Scotland will be negotiating
as one of the foremost and most respected fishing nations in
Europe. This status will give Scotland the opportunity to take
a leadership role in reforming the Common Fisheries Policy to
deliver fisheries management at regional and Member State
level and to keep Scottish quota in Scotland"

Ehh, the Yes campaign has never claimed that the oil in the North Sea would 'make Scotland the richest country in the world'.

I must be thick today, but some of that doesn't make any sense, UK means united kingdom which consists of, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, so saying UK is 18th also means Scotland is 18th, why have another value just for Scotland, all the way through the fact check they were talking as if Scotland was already independent of the UK.

As Scotland is only one small country compared to England, Wales and Northern Ireland combined, they will not be just only very slightly less prosperous than the rest of the UK, the maths doesn't make any sense. Without Scotland you have 3 to 1 on living standards and wealth.

One thing I do agree is that all the oil businesses are foreign owned with profits going oversees, so Scotland doesn't own anything really they may only get a small percentage, same goes for fishing, there are so many foreign fishing boats in our waters, it's hard for our own fishermen to catch what they used to, we can see that with the price of fish going up. That's why they were saying it wouldn't effect Scotland if they did have the oil, because they don't really own it, as in all profits etc, go straight into Scotland.

One thing I am sure they have thought about is trade with the UK, if Scotland becomes independent then they will lose the free trade they have with the UK and I can't see Scotland producing enough wealth to shrug that off.

Think about it who will it hurt the most, the UK or Scotland. Scotland has just over 5 million people while the UK has over 63 million. Do you think those 5 million people could produce enough revenue to keep the country on their feet without help?

Is a way around that higher taxes to business which does work, but Scotland wants even lower taxes.
Not sure the ratio of SME business in Scotland.
Problem is Scotland is small, even the UK has less power going to get even less power on the world stage soon.
Throwing your weight at oil also is a problem ton of risks and hurt around that.
