Considering I rage when I get to 50FPS on most games (some games like Crysis or BF4 I am more forgiving), frames would mean a lot. But so do textures and resolution. I'd rather have 720p and better textures than 1080p and poorer textures given that the 720p variant would usually result in a slightly higher framerate. With that all being said and done it's convenient once you chose PC since you no longer have to be subjected to the developers rule over the game, instead you can pick the components and gear the PC to whatever spectrum you want. If you don't want 1080p that's fine, just build yourself a nice $400 rig and be done with it. If you want a good rig to play most games at 1080p ULTRA @ 60fps, get a $800 machine, that's fine too. Choices are always better in my opinion. The advantages consoles will tend to have is the fact that once they are released they tend to be more effective at playing games due to the developers having untapped access to the hardware of the console, while PC's rely heavily upon API's (DX). This is something that needs to be addressed seriously.
