Ebola is a rather deadly thing even on a small scale when you start to get to epidemic levels....
Current death rate can be up to 90%,with 728 already dead.
Spread through contact with bodily fluids of infected patients, bush meat or surfaces, Ebola has no known cure or vaccine, longer you wait more likely death.
Also has a rapid, constant mutation and adaptation changing very quickly.
Biggest problem is Ebola appears to be malaria at first, can take 21 days for the host to notice.
With health care in these nations being poor along with a deep mistrust Ebola is hard to counter.
Virus can be contained the methods are rather basic but hard to apply in this part of the world.

I fear the same thing. Hoping it doesn't turn into something big since the numbers are much higher than they ever have been

Not lazy just poor investment has created this problem it pretty easy to stop, just these places are untrusting due to lack of investment.

Hopefully the US (and other developed nations) have a plan in place should it reach their shores.
US and Eurozone do, UK medical stations are sending out letters to doctors with a plan being made in advance for new virus coming to the UK.
US along with Eurozone have a plan in place which is on stand be if need be. Also a legal framework allowing for certain items to be used just in case.
Risk is rather low of spreading right now.
