In Flames Much?
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Panel of scientists have been looking at ways to reduce obesity and overweightness in Americans.
Unpublished research shows medical expenses, reduced productivity, wider gender and income inequality and even higher transportation costs have links with this shift in demographics.
Medical expenses for the extremely overweight have skyrocketed.
Now appears that not just individual’s well-being suffering but significant economic costs associated with this change.

With 2/3 of Americans are now overweight with 1/3 being classed as obese, the panel was set up to see the consequences of this demographic change and what could be done.
The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee last month recommended increase taxes on sugary drinks and foods to reduce consumption. Revenue used subsidize or promote healthier behavior.

Insurance based health care system means leaner people are now subsidizing fat people. Now calls for serious intervention which go beyond normal policy measures to solve this crisis.
Shift in spending towards health care could suck demand out of the economy resulting in less investment.

So far people are holding down the economy in the jobs they can and how much they do.

Every day, I laugh in my mind to those who bring KFC, burger king food, and all that nasty fast food crap in my class after lunch. It's just disgusting and they are wasting so much money for fast foods.

Sometimes though, obesity isn't just as simple as "oh you eat too much..". A lot of obese people in the world, not just America have actual medial conditions which I doubt this group of scientists have taken into consideration.

If the US government are looking into wasted money, I'm sure there are thousands of other ways they can cut back instead of picking on fat people..

Just my 2 cents Smile

Exactly. Granted I seldom eat fast food, but when I do have a cheat meal I love me some Popeyes, McDonalds, KFC, etc. It's just people overeat in general. I guarantee if you look at the calories the average obese person consumes and what specifically they eat you'd be shocked.

Honestly, the only place I've actually seen a swarm of obese people are at the gym. It's pretty ironic to be honest.

Fast food isn't just the problem at all. People like to think fats are the reason people become overweight and that's simply not the case. Carbohydrates are the real victim here. We as humans have been eating fat for thousands of years, yet this obesity/overweight issue only started arising in the past 50 years or so. Very coincidental that at this time big food business started bringing out these cheap foods that are god awful for you and promoted "90% less fat!" and instead replace it with sugars and starches. That's the real problem here.

I like where your going here.. Metabolic rates are a huge key factor. I have a massive appetite yet no matter what I eat, I still never gain weight.
