(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Yep, I woke up to my mother asking me if I wanted to have my ingrown toenail removed today at 2:30, so I said yes.

Background info: I suffer from ingrown toenails quite often. I get anywhere from 2-3 a month it seems....always on my big toes. I always cut them out myself with a pocket knife and then bandage them up with some antibiodic gel. However, this time was different...I tried to cut the ingrown toenail out but it hurt extremely bad this time (yes, it hurts cutting them out, but not as bad as it did this time.)

Anyways, I went to the doctors and this is how it went down:
-Sprayed with some type of ethyl to freeze the spots they were going to inject the needles
-Injected with a needle a total of 6 times. (yes, they inject it in one area at a time and they twist the needle sideways while it's injecting anesthetic to fully succumb the feeling in the toe.)
-Let me sit for a couple of minutes
-Moved me to a different room
-Cleaned my foot with betadine and a sponge
-Doctor starts digging the toenail out of the skin
-I feel a pretty bad pain at this point, so I tell the doctor and he injects me 6 more times.
-Within a minute of injecting me for the last time, he starts clipping my toenail to remove the sides of it
-No pain at all
-Removes both sides of the toenail
-Takes a paper towel, soakes it in phenol (an acid to kill the root of the nail so that it doesn't grow back in that area), and dabs it on both sides of my toenail.
-Wraps up toe and let it sit
-Bandage fills up with blood, so the nurse changes it out and watches me for another 10 minutes to make sure the bleeding has stopped
-Bleeding stops and she bandages me up fully this time and I leave

TLAwesome faceR: After struggling with ingrown toenails for years, I finally had them surgically removed for good this time.

Here's some pictures (Yes, there is blood, so if you don't want to see blood, don't look....)

Thank God for anaesthetic. Imagine the pain you would've went through getting that out without it =Z I have no idea what pain you went through, cutting that out by yourself every few months. Better now though :y:

It's funny that this thread exists because my right big toe does this about 3x a month for about 10 years now. The last time I went to a doctor they burned the root so it wasn't supposed to grow back. (They only did the corner of it so I wouldn't lose the entire nail). However that didnt work and it's still an issue but I just found it was easier on me to just cut it out when it became an issue.

But yea I know your pain and it sucks.

Those are some seriously ugly toe nails! lol. all jokes aside, surgery in anyway is a bitch but atleast the problem will be resolved. I had jaw surgery for my bite only to have further issues in the future to do with it. Ah well

Haha yeah, the anesthetic definitely helped. It wasn't too awfully bad cutting them out by myself, just had to go really slow.

Well thanks, Outsider lol! I really hope that the problem is solved. I told them that I'd be back next time my right big toe had one to have the surgery done on it as well. That sucks about your jaw man, hopefully you can get fixed up somehow!

1UP, they burned the root out of mine with phenol (which is carbolic acid) on both sides of my toenail to ensure that I didn't have anymore problems out of that toe. I understand what you mean when you say it's easier to just cut it out yourself, but I wasn't able to do that this time because the infection was pretty bad so it was inflammed quite a bit.... That sucks to hear that your procedure didn't permanetely work though! I'm hoping it works for mine because it's just aggervating having to deal with them 2-3 times a month..

My sister works with a foot doctor, she told me if the nail is too overgrown they just remove the whole thing, and the best part is that he gives us discounts cause shes my sister. and ingrown toenails are because of how you cut your nails, your supposed to cut them in a straight line and not follow the curve in the nail. pretty much giving your toenail a box cut but for nails.

Today Will Be Different
This was definitely interesting. I actually had a sister who had this procedure done awhile back, but I never got the entire explanation. But in regards to all the shots you were given, she told me about that and I had quite the laugh. I believe I'm experiencing a similar issue, but I've never really looked into what an ingrown toenail is. I should probably do that, however I seldom notice pain, unless pressure is applied to my toenail. So I guess it's not too bad. But it hurts like a mother fucker on occasion.

Hammys Masturbation Tissue; lol tears thanks. I actually just woke up from a nap and I'm definitely feeling the throbbing and a little bit of stinging now :p

Guzman; I haven't heard of them removing the whole nail, however, I did watch a video of where a doctor removed both sides of a patient's toe (yes, you read right, his meat on his toe - gross). I'm not sure why he did that, maybe he had to? Oh well, it wasn't me thankfully haha. I've always cut my nails with a pocket knife it seems and they're not always straight, so that's definitely a contributing factor to my ingrown toenails.

Rath on top of yo girl; An ingrown toenail is just simply where your nail grows into the wrong spot. Your nails are pretty sharp and when they grow, if they grow wrong they can puncture the skin and continue to grow underneath of the skin, which is pretty painful until you get the pressure relieved from your skin. If not removed before it gets really bad you can develop an infection, which is what happened in my case.

avatar1o1234; thanks, I appreciate it!

Yeah sometimes if you dont take care of your ingrown, they can get infected and once its too advanced they have no other choice but to amputate. My sisters doctor amputated this ladys toe cause she didnt take care of her foot.
