Twenty years ago, the original PlayStation hit shelves in the US.

By today's standards, it was woefully underpowered - games had to make do with just two megabytes of memory (by comparison, today's smartphones have about a thousand times more) and a 33Mhz processor.

But the console - which cost an eye-watering $1100 when adjusted to today's prices - introduced games on CD, along with controllers that had dual joysticks and rumbled to provide tactile feedback.

To celebrate, the gamers at Sony have dug an original PlayStation out of the archives and given it an unboxing. Watch the proceedings lol.

I think I have it somewhere under a few inches of dust. I need to dust it of and give it a whirl for old times sake Smile

Well the good news is that they sold so well they are super common. You can pick one up on ebay for like $25.

Why can't they just release another batch of PS1-skinned PS4s. Sal I hate those asshats selling them for $1000-1500  Or, y'know, they should release remastered trilogy of Spyro, since he was more or less the PlayStation One's mascot. Sal

Sony has released a theme you can pick up for free on the PSN store Winky Winky

Amazing how the project almost never happened I can't remember the story behind it.

You mean Crash right? I don't remember seeing spyro as a physical mascot.
