Congratulations, you've eliminated one of many possible reasons it reported a trojan. Proof of that will still not prove it was from the browser. Here are some more possible reasons off the top of my head:
1. Your anti-virus is shit
2. Someone else is on your network and redirected your download
3. You downloaded it from a Google clone (Almost like a phishing site)

Google Chrome all the way.
It is much better now. If you tried it in past try it again, it has greatly improved.
They have great extensions for it. Loads faster than FF and IE, internet speeds are bout same on all browsers (On a new computer). But Chrome even on my new computer still seems faster browsing than all others.
