(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I've just set up my HD PVR which arrived in the post earlier today, and the quality on my TV (haven't attempted to press record on EyeTv yet) was awful. It went sepia and there was a loud buzzing noises, any advice for this? Also, if it helps, nearly all of the lights on the PVR were alight, i believe they were green, purple and red... or something along the lines of that.

Would really appreciate any advice with this. Smile

Are you using the component cables or composite cables? The composite cables should be the ones you're using to get the "HD."

I'm using component cables at the moment. Do I already have the composite cables (ie. do they come with PS3) or would I need to purchase them?

Also, the quality is awful, surely it wouldn't be that bad?

EDIT: Have seen that the composite cables come with the PS3, where would I use them?

that explains why your quality is terrible. You need to use the composite cables. I can't remember if my PVR came with them or not.

composite from your PS3 into the back of the PVR and then from the PVR into the back of the TV. You may have to buy a set of composites to go from your PVR into your TV.

that should fix the quality issues. Smile

Are you sure you are referring to a composite cable? If you look over the internet, nearly all tutorials use a component cable.

Here is a full explanation of all of my problems:

Hello guys,

I recently purchased the HD PVR, it arrived yesterday - after two weeks of Play.com 'awaiting stock' - and am now having several problems.

I have been told by everyone that the quality looks best on 720p. However, when I set it up on the Playstation 3 it does not recognise any of the settings other than 1080i.

After clicking on 1080i the quality on the TV is appalling - I understand the quality will be reduced, but it looks horrible. There is a large black line on the left of the screen, the picture is yellowish/sepia and there is a loud buzzing noise. Currently this is my main problem.

My last problem is that EyeTV (being a Mac i have to use this) is showing 'No signal', although it does recognise it has been inserted as it automatically opens.

I have everything connected ok, as far as I know, and when I set up the Display Settings on the PS3 I do the following:

1. Click display settings.
2. Click video output settings.
3. Click Component/D-Terminal.
4. Click on 720p - it does not work and returns to the original screen - and then eventually click 1080i, the only settings which does work.

Any, help or advice would be much appreciated.

(I posted that on a HD PVR support forum, but have had no response.)

EDIT: Also, what settings do you use on the PS3 for composite? Do you just click on composite / S Video? And what extension do you change to on your TV? I changed it to Composite on the PS3, but couldn't find a correct channel/extension on the TV to find it.

you're right... I had it backwards. sorry. It's component that you wnt... the red, blue and green cables.

On my PS3 I have all the video settings checked, but the last one. If my memory serves me right its 1080p?

The bottom one is 1080i, but it wouldn't allow me to use any settings lower than that.

Any other ideas what the problem is?

I've turned off and on the HD PVR and have lost all signal, now. Will have to restore factory settings to get the picture back.

Do you reckon it may be a dodgy one? Or have you got any other suggestions...

Ok, u got to have composite cables for what ever system and have it at 720p as this is the best quality for the HD PVR, the red light = something is wrong with the capture, i dont know what the green is >.<

How about reading the manual? :p
