My laptop is a gaming laptop:

12gb of DDR3 Ram,
GTX 660m DDR5 2GB

Just with those who, I run basically any game I have thrown at it at ultra. Tried Battlefield 3 on Ultra the other day and didn't notice a difference between High and Ultra, it played extremely smooth for my taste.

You need to determine if you want an AMD build or an Intel build. AMD is going to cost a bit less, and keep in mind, the next generation of games is being designed with AMD in mind. Nearly all gamers I know build AMD builds, however, the Intel i7 would future proof you for the next generation of game.

i5 does not cut it anymore like I have been saying all this time.

what kind of gaming laptop do you have?

I got it on a 3 day sale last month for a total price, after shipping + no tax, for 1034$.

Mine however is a 1600x900 and has a blueray drive in it. Mine is a 1350$ model not the 1,500$ mdoel. Just saying.

More RAM (memory) doesn't give you better performance, it just gives you more overhead for having lots (and lots and lots) of programs open. For reference I have 16GB of memory and rarely exceed 6GB usage. If you're just gaming you shan't need more than 8GB.

I could try and fit a 120/144Hz monitor into the budget but if you're never experienced above 60Hz you won't know what you're missing and it's quite expensive.

Here's what I'd suggest for you:
