Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer DICE has pledged that it will never charge for downloadable map packs.

The news comes after Infinity Ward put a pricetag of 1200 Microsoft Points on its Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Map Pack.

IW's pack went on sale yesterday - with some complications. DICE's own VIP 2 map pack became available on the same day - without cost.

"We don't ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together," DICE senior producer Patrick Bach told Xbox World 360 magazine.

Bach commented that DICE had "generous" amounts of DLC planned for Battlefield: Bad Company 2's future.

He added: "We're owned by EA but we're still very much DICE."

And also, are you trying to say that they forced IW to put a price on both the PS3 and the X360 versions of the stimulus map pack?

So now, according to you, Microsoft have a say in what content is produced - and the prices tagged along with them - on a console and a company that they don't even own! LOL!

Then why is Left 4 Dead add-on content on PC free and on xbox360 you got to pay? Happy

How do you work out that I'm a PS3 fanboy? I play my Xbox more than PS3. I use my PS3 for media and that's about it. I'm saying that Microsoft need to make money some how. That's what they do. The latest BFBC2 map pack must have been on disk already or you either stream them straight through the servers. I had no download or update for the maps.
Microsoft can't force Activision to put a price on something that will be going to Sony, but they will put a price on for Xbox. Like GrillaX said, why are L4D maps free on PC but not Xbox? It's the same company.

I never said such thing. I was talking about Microsoft being able to price Xbox items that come though Live. If you had a brain you would think and realise I would be talking about Xbox. Why would I be talking about Microsoft charging things for Sony? They are rivals. You really need to read things properly. How do you work out that I said Microsoft tell companies what to make, and what to make it for. I merely said that Microsoft told a company that they had to charge for the XBOX. Like I said earlier, why would I be talking about Microsoft and Gears of War and associate it with Sony. Fuk me, I thought people would be able to understand such simple things.

That is very nice of them.

If you look in the store (in game store, either console) you can see that the DLC SCROLLS DOWN! That's a hell load of DLC. I can see paying for the weapon upgrades (already in the store just waiting for release), and additional content, but not charging for the maps is nice.

Wonder if all that DLC will be free for those who bought their game new from the get go.

Hooray! Even with VIP I figured there would be some sort of future cost coming my way. Wish IW was more like Dice but whatever.

dlc was not free you needed vip access if you don't have vip access you can buy it.

so if you did not have vip the maps are not free because vip costs money.

I have 2 accounts only have the maps on the vip account because you can't enter it twice.

so the maps are not free for that vip needs to be free and it even says ingame that if you don't have it you can purchase it. so its not free.

although I don't know anyone who did not fet vip with the game I am sure there are a few.
