Custom DNS bypass....Almost immediately after Sony released its new firmware update, 3.21, that removed the "Other OS" function, various techniques of keeping the previous firmware alive and still playing online have been discovered.
One of these techniques is the fake DNS (<a href="https://www.nextgenupdate.com/forums/featured-news/125191-playstation-3-patch-version-3-21-live-bypass.html" target="_blank">See here for more details</a>
Another of the main ways that have been found to enable you to keep the old firmware alive, is by using proxy programs that would tell the server that the current firmware was up to date or rewrite the packet itself (<a href="https://www.nextgenupdate.com/forums/call-duty-modern-warfare-2-exploits-hacks/126349-ps3-patch-blocker-v2-1-a.html">See here for NextGenUpdate's own <i>TheUnkn0wn</i>'s program</a>
, but it has been reported that neither of these are working any more.The DNS bypass was originally used by many as a way of holding out for GeoHot's custom firmware to allow the Other OS function. It is my personal opinion that people will continue to push GeoHot for a release of his firmware, as many people believe they can become expert hackers by using it.

Sony is yet to confim that they have removed the ability to sign in on previous firmwares by either of these 2 methods, but it is almost guaranteed to have something to do with further security concerns.

Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a slim and then you can keep the old firmware on the fat PS3.
I have a fat PS3 on the newest old firmware I haven't bothered with the PSN or tricking it and I'm thinking about not up grading the firmware on it to keep the other-OS feature in tact.
My parents also have the old 60gig launch PS3 on real old firmware so it also has the other-os feature.
I've been thinking of picking up a slim as well, for the larger HD and yes I do know I can upgrade the HD but I'm not really up for losing out on the other-os feature, so could pick up a slim and just upgrade the HDs in both fat/slim PS3's.
Also if all your PS3's are banned maybe geohot's PS3 is banned as well, seeing as he did the video of CFW and going onto PSN with it.

It's very unlikely Sony will bring OtherOS back in the future. Every feature Sony has removed from PS3 since the launch model has never come back.
Adding OtherOS back to PS3 doesn't bring Sony extra profit, but the opposite. Selling PS3 as a game console brings profit from each PS3 game licensing. Running Linux on PS3 brings Sony negative profit.
Sony can't really sell OtherOS as PSN Premium feature because it's like taking an existing feature out and then resell it back as Premium. Not only that, OtherOS still doesn't help selling PS3 game.

we must wait for eGohot to release cfw, it would be awesomes if this cfw will allow the ability to run unsigned code. but I have a feeling this is just an RCO edit
