Post: Headset overview

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So, in this thread, I hope to give an overview of some of the well known headsets for PS3. I will be ranging from the standard bluetooth headset to the Astro A40. Although I will be directing this at PS3 users, some of the headsets will work for the Xbox 360.

Official Sony Bluetooth Headset

This is the most basic of gaming headsets, and I recommend that everyone should get one, if not a better headset (see below). Microphones are essential to doing well, as they allow players to easily communicate.

Unlike other bluetooth headsets, this Sony model features: a mute button which is great if you need to cough, sneeze ect; a docking station, which makes charging much easier; adjustable to suit the users ear. The mic quality is good, as is the sound of your team-mate's voices. However, you'll still have to listen to in-game sound through your TV, and after an hour of usage, my ear began to hurt.

If you use your PS3 occasionally, then this will be a great investment, the battery life is HUGE, and your game will improve with the ability to communicate with fellow team-mates.

My rating - 4/10

TurtleBeach P21/PX21

The original P21 was released back in September and was a huge hit. They are the most basic gaming headset available on the PS3, and cost £60/ $79(I think :p).

This Turtle Beach model are very light, yet sturdy. They will not break easily (unless you're clumsy and sit on them), you can easily differentiate between left and right, there's an in-line microphone mute, and volume controls. The newer model, the PX21, is the smae model, but has improved features, and has some of the sound issues fixed. Unfortunately though, the P21/PX21 uses stereo input, so there is only sound from the left and right, any sounds from in from or behind can not be differentiated between. Also, should you want to play in HD, you will need to get another cable for the audio, which means that your room might start getting messy.

But if you play your console daily and are looking to improve your game, this headset is a great starting point, and isn't going to break the bank.

My rating - 6.5/10
