My experience from downloading the software from torrents is that, more times then not, you end up with malware that are a pain in the bum to get rid of.
To make things more frustrating, many times, when you think you have obtained a functioning version of the application, it ends up being corrupted or missing plug-in effects, etc....
I have an $8,000 computer which I don't even allow internet access to! If I were to steal the Adobe suite products I'd have to download the software individually (because you'll never find a functioning complete suite in a single torrent) and then go through the painstaking process of determining whether or not each application is a functioning version. Then, once I have a functioning version I'd have to transfer the install files to my editing workstation and install. This is totally not worth the hassle.
I think it's best to get the student/teacher discount and not have any worries! If you're serious about the work you're doing, why in the hell would you steal the software? I could understand if it was 3ds max or something, because that is very expensive software, but the Adobe software isn't that expensive.
If you've never used the software before and you're curious, I guess going through the agonizing process of stealing it is probably worth the couple hundred bucks you'll save. But, still, who wants to deal with the viruses and corrupted downloads? Why not just download the free 30 day trial versions of the software from Adobe.com? Then when the trial runs out, make a new email account and redownload the software until you are fortunate enough to kind a serial key.
If you have 4 gigs of ram, you should be fine using them, you just can't have all of them open at once. I have gotten one virus in my 7 years of torrenting, and that was back when i was retarded and use limewire. I used thepiratebay, just read the comments and you should be good, also anything that is under 50 seeders is a virus (if it's a program). However, if you want to be 100% sure that your not getting a virus, then get an invite to private torrenting sites like demonoid, iptorrents, etc... those will never have a virus because the admins scan everything before it gets uploaded. I have downloaded cs2, cs3, and the cs4 master suite in one single torrent. If you do not have internet on your 8000$ computer, either you got ripped off on the specs severely, or your not too bright. The only thing that would ever require 8000$ worth of computer parts is online games, which you clearly cannot play since you have no internet. All you would have to do, is plug in your ethernet cable to that computer. Every application is completely functionable if the comments of the torrent say it is and its over 200 seeders. The process is not agonizing at all btw.
1) Go to torrenting site
2) Download torrent
3) Open torrent
4) Let it download
5) Install the torrent
6) Use the serial number/keygen included with it.
7) ?????

Profit!

What the hell is an experienced downloader have anything to do with anything... any of the good torrent sites are bound to have bad or malicious files/apps. You download the software and unzip it, and if the install files look legit you install. The problem I find is that often times the serial generator that gets included as a necessity with a lot of these programs is often malware. Even when you think you found a good rip of your software, too many times you end up with a semi-full version missing plug-ins etc; sometimes you could use the program for months without realizing that upon trying to use an effect (or to that extent) you get a system error. I use the products to video and motion graphic work and I've dabbled with ripped versions, but if you're serious you buy software and avoid the pitfalls.
... By the way.. what the hell is a high-end anti-virus? I don't think a perfect anti-virus exists! I use AVG and Norton Internet Security and I've still had viruses... not to mention, some of these viruses required manual removal that took up too much of my time..
Enlighten me if you will... please explain...
what torrents, anti-virus, protocols, etc. do you recommend?
P.S. - I've never tried to install a whole collection such as the Master Collection... However, I did purchase the Master Collection and, let me say, it was quite the task to install. I can't imagine how with such a large file and so many possible ways that things could have gone wring during the rip that you'd be able to find a fully functional version of the Master Collection!

almost certain (99.9999999%) that Adobe products cannot be run on Ubuntu...
Any of the good torrenting sites would mean private ones, which do not EVER have viruses. However, if you mean mediocre ones like the public ones, yeah then they have lots of viruses, but if your stupid enough to download a torrent with a virus you usually deserve it. Sort it by the highest amount of seeders and look at that one, read the comments on it. If your torrent site does not have comments, or torrents with above 1000 seeders, you might want to relocate yourself to a place that does. I have never downloaded software that was not fully functionable, sure plugins missing, but that just means the plugins aren't there in the stock version of the plugin and you can usually find those plugins in a torrent of a collection of plugins for that program. And yes high-end antiviruses do exist. Norton is a terrible antivirus and avg can usually only detect things but not delete them. Invest some money into Kapersky or NOD32, those are high-end antiviruses. Or you could do what the rest of us do and torrent it. My favorite torrenting site is iptorrents, but it is invite only (pm me and i can get you one), i use utorrent to download, and i use no antivirus, just a firewall, because if your stupid enough to get a virus, you usually deserve it. Protip: Don't download that Adobe Cs4 Master Collection!!1!1111!!!!! torrent with 30 seeders that is 100 mb. I have never had a problem with any of the rips i have used on adobe products, i just use the really popular rips, that a multitude of people comment on. Adobe programs can run on linux (a few of them). But for the ones that don't you can use a program called Wine that allows you to run windows applications.
Sorry for any typos in this massive wall of text, i just woke up.
