In a memo sent out to all Microsoft employee's, that was in turn sent to kotaku, the CEO of Microsoft announced that the pair were retiring.

"At Microsoft, I've been so fortunate to spend more than two decades of my life working with incredible people and doing amazing things like launching Office, Xbox and Xbox Live, the ‘Halo' franchise, Windows Phones, Zune and more," Bach said in a prepared statement. "I'm at the time in my life where I want to dedicate more time to my family and my nonprofit work, including my work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I have the utmost confidence in Steve, Don and Andy and their ability to see through our mission of bringing extraordinary entertainment and mobility experiences to life for people around the world."

For those of you too lazy to read the quote, he basically says that he's enjoyed his time with Microsoft and is glad he's leaving at such a great time for Microsoft. And that he wants to spend more time with his family and helping less fortunate people.

Rumors have also been confirmed that J. Allard, the companies chief officer of the entertainment and devices division, is leaving Microsoft after an employment of 15 years.

Both of these men were key employees in the division responsible for the xbox 360 and the Zune. In my opinion, this could be Sony's best chance to catch up to Microsoft. After the PS3's horrible launch in 2006, rated by Nintendo Power (I still have this one from when I was 11) to be the worst Game Launch of the Year. By the time they had gotten back on there feet, the Xbox 360 was already far ahead. That's my speculation, what do you guys think about this?

To and fro the island.
Perhaps you're all right in thinking it will have a negative impact on Microsoft. You're not considering the alternative, though.

Remember not too long ago when Infinity Ward was losing a variety of people, and the comment was made that now the hard workers who made the Call of Duty series come to life could get their voices heard and get recognition? Well this could very well be the same case for Microsoft.

Indeed, the two heads left, but that doesn't mean Microsoft is going to start falling on their face. Microsoft could actually gain from this loss, because it will be giving those who worked under the two retired heads an opportunity to make their mark on Microsoft.

Yes I noticed how much this sounded like the IW thing. Yes maybe my post was a bit of an overstatement, but it will impact them to some extent, how ever small it is, because though they may have already found replacements/promoted others, they have lost part of what made the Xbox franchise great. It's like any sequel you've ever seen. Do they ever match up to the first? They're usually good but never have I seen a sequel that is better than the original.
