Treyarch have revealed they are extremely considering Black Ops Prestige Mode to have a time lock i.e. you cannot prestige unless you have played enough time playing Black Ops Multiplayer. When you reach the top rank you will not be able to prestige unless you have played for a certain amount of time. Is this a response to mass boosting and hacking? Almost certainly.

Treyarch held a voting poll on their forums to see how much time the community would like to have to wait for Prestige Mode to become available:

Let's have a discussion about how long it should take you to Prestige.

Imagine it is day 1. You just bought Black Ops and started playing MP.

Think of the time as "game time played" or "hours spent playing MP on an average day" and not "real time" or "when you have a good day."

Don't worry about which Playlist or game mode you are playing, your skill level, or any Double XP weekend.

Think about it like I need to think about it. At a macro level.

In development, we are logging the average XP earned per hour played, so I have a statistically accurate idea of how long it will take you.

The vote fell to 24 hours. As long as Treyarch take the Community's decision it is either those who have played 24 hours that will be able to enter Prestige Mode or that only those who have reached maximum rank will be able to Prestige if they have 24 hours of playing time. Could this mean that boosters who have reached top ranks in under 24 hours will be unable to prestige? Certainly, although does it mean those who have struggled to reach top rank under 24 hours will still be able to prestige while they're under the max level of each prestige?

Is this a good idea, do you think this is better? It takes me more than 24 hours to hit top rank so I don't really mind! However, I don't think this will stop hacking since hackers can set your time played to any value they want. I don't think it is good for other reasons because many core and experienced gamers have gained the skill to prestige in under 24 hours and I believe it's unfair for them to wait. However, I've always been tempted to stay at level 70 to keep all guns, perks and attachments. I promptly prestige since I don't want to waste any of my score. This may be good as it could force us in certain situations to stay at maximum level for a while.

Oh, and as an added bonus I've enclosed a download link to Treyarch's official set of Black Ops Wallpapers:

EDIT: Thanks to GQGK for bringing for bringing this alternative analysis to our attention:

He tells us this may mean they will change the top rank according to how much time it will take for you to reach it. Since they have the XP per hour they will change that to 24 hours. Here's an example:

It takes 10XP per hour
It takes 240XP to reach top rank
Therefore, it takes 24 hours to reach top rank on XP based per hour.

I do not think this is a better assumption in another way although it is certainly valid. Please take this into note as another possible option that Treyarch could take. I think it is alongside my assumption and while it seems a tad more likely I believe a well adjusted time-lock could be exactly what Treyarch are looking for to solve many of their problems. It'd be easy to implement, if tuned correctly wouldn't severely anger the community as it would only be an anti-hacking implement and could easily be adjusted.
