Treyarch have revealed they are extremely considering Black Ops Prestige Mode to have a time lock i.e. you cannot prestige unless you have played enough time playing Black Ops Multiplayer. When you reach the top rank you will not be able to prestige unless you have played for a certain amount of time. Is this a response to mass boosting and hacking? Almost certainly.

Treyarch held a voting poll on their forums to see how much time the community would like to have to wait for Prestige Mode to become available:

Let's have a discussion about how long it should take you to Prestige.

Imagine it is day 1. You just bought Black Ops and started playing MP.

Think of the time as "game time played" or "hours spent playing MP on an average day" and not "real time" or "when you have a good day."

Don't worry about which Playlist or game mode you are playing, your skill level, or any Double XP weekend.

Think about it like I need to think about it. At a macro level.

In development, we are logging the average XP earned per hour played, so I have a statistically accurate idea of how long it will take you.

The vote fell to 24 hours. As long as Treyarch take the Community's decision it is either those who have played 24 hours that will be able to enter Prestige Mode or that only those who have reached maximum rank will be able to Prestige if they have 24 hours of playing time. Could this mean that boosters who have reached top ranks in under 24 hours will be unable to prestige? Certainly, although does it mean those who have struggled to reach top rank under 24 hours will still be able to prestige while they're under the max level of each prestige?

Is this a good idea, do you think this is better? It takes me more than 24 hours to hit top rank so I don't really mind! However, I don't think this will stop hacking since hackers can set your time played to any value they want. I don't think it is good for other reasons because many core and experienced gamers have gained the skill to prestige in under 24 hours and I believe it's unfair for them to wait. However, I've always been tempted to stay at level 70 to keep all guns, perks and attachments. I promptly prestige since I don't want to waste any of my score. This may be good as it could force us in certain situations to stay at maximum level for a while.

Oh, and as an added bonus I've enclosed a download link to Treyarch's official set of Black Ops Wallpapers:

EDIT: Thanks to GQGK for bringing for bringing this alternative analysis to our attention:

He tells us this may mean they will change the top rank according to how much time it will take for you to reach it. Since they have the XP per hour they will change that to 24 hours. Here's an example:

It takes 10XP per hour
It takes 240XP to reach top rank
Therefore, it takes 24 hours to reach top rank on XP based per hour.

I do not think this is a better assumption in another way although it is certainly valid. Please take this into note as another possible option that Treyarch could take. I think it is alongside my assumption and while it seems a tad more likely I believe a well adjusted time-lock could be exactly what Treyarch are looking for to solve many of their problems. It'd be easy to implement, if tuned correctly wouldn't severely anger the community as it would only be an anti-hacking implement and could easily be adjusted.

Doesn't really matter in my opinion, it all adds to your score and you'll eventually get 10th prestige anyhow if that's your aim

it sounds like a good idea but when you really think about.... resricitng the amount of prestiging is sort of sounding more like pc or halo type of game.people who play call of duty play it because of the freedom to do anyhing in the game i.e camping, prestiging, fast leveling on double xp time and other things because its not like anythings going away. but now with the time to wait for prestige its like putting a leash on my and others gameplay. this is especailly gonna hurt the xbox live users because they have to pay for online and the time its taking them to get hours they could be moving on to the prestige they should be at right? and when there live cards expire they still have to get the hours it wont go up unless there online. ( maybe this an act to get more money off us} and i know that eventualy the gamelpay will come to a depression level where there will be a mass amount of lv 65 or 70 users with every gun unlocked and all the stuff for killing and low level players are gonna get screwed.

after reading my previous post, i want you all to think about whats going to happen in the long run for the players who will have to wait to go presitige. there will be no low level players to face and if your kill death ratio is a low one its gonna get worse, cause majority of the players on call of duty have a KDR of 0.78 and thats goin be much lower cause if yo have a low KDR and ur facing people of the same KDR but there max lv waiting to prestige they have all weapons and its no longer equal to the low level and low KDR players who wish to progress in the game and get beter by facing players of there own league. and i also would like to pint our that not all players will be online right? so now they wont be able to log on with all there stuff they would have had if there wasnt a time bound, they would be forced to play the 24 hours if they want to prestige. and the main reasone why people play and make new accounts is because going prestige to players is there objective and getting the kills is helping.

I like this idea. Technically speaking, the time you spend online should reflect the amount of experience you have at the game. I'm not really sure why people are complaining about this. It doesn't make the game any easier for bad players. Obviously, if the inexperienced player can make 10th prestige they won't be inexperienced anymore!

Thats good that Treyarch is actually doing something to stop hacking. But hackers would find a way around it someday. I just hope that they don't though. I mean why would you hack, other than trying to get what you paid for?

Atleast it would rid of boosters although I don't want a long period of time play because I don't play very often. Sounds good though thanks mate.

I believe that Black Ops can be hacked because it's a different game to WaW (same developers...I know).
I believe that Black Ops can be hacked because never has there been a time where people have had a good amount of hacking knowledge, J-tag knowledge etc.

I believe, and other people believe. Why don't you?

Omg! i love you!
You have great points
