"We will launch a new first-person action title during the back half of 2011," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said. Activision COO Thomas Tippl further confirmed this with the statement "Next year's Call of Duty will be a first-person shooter."

The game which they were referring to was not named, nor was the studio which would be developing it. Modern Warfare 3 has been highly touted as the game in the works, which court documents identified as being in development at Infinity Ward as of May. That same month, Activision said the studio continued to work on its 'next big project'.

A second Call of Duty is also in the works from newly formed studio Sledgehammer Games. Though this title is expected to take on an Action-Adventure approach, while remaining a first-person shooter.

Jake, they are reffering to the one after black ops witch is being developped by Sledgehammer games

I saw somewhere else on this site, that Sledgehammer Games WERN'T making a first-person shooter, it was going to be a third-person shooter and they were expecting to sell 18+ million units in the first year. They said they were in coalition with Activision, however, I doubt Activision will input as much as they made their previous games. Sledgehammer Games HAVE said that it will be named 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3', however, they also have stated 'There will NOT be as many perks, nor will there be any perks featured from the previous series'. They also stated that there will be NO Sleight of Hand Pro. And, they have also stated 'There will be new instalments of guns, however, previous guns such as the Barrett 50. Cal, Intervention, and other weapons will NOT be featured in this game'.
