"We will launch a new first-person action title during the back half of 2011," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said. Activision COO Thomas Tippl further confirmed this with the statement "Next year's Call of Duty will be a first-person shooter."

The game which they were referring to was not named, nor was the studio which would be developing it. Modern Warfare 3 has been highly touted as the game in the works, which court documents identified as being in development at Infinity Ward as of May. That same month, Activision said the studio continued to work on its 'next big project'.

A second Call of Duty is also in the works from newly formed studio Sledgehammer Games. Though this title is expected to take on an Action-Adventure approach, while remaining a first-person shooter.

I knew this ages ago, the person who voices Gaz/Ghost (same person) told someone that he was working on a spin off.

Couldn't be less excited, I havn't really gotten over the shock of how bad MW2 was and how much it let me down after all the hype.

I hope they get creative and chose a different name for it, MW3 really? I know it will be to the same story line but come on, they can give it a catchy name to it

Well, the pressure is now on these guys. Black Ops is looking to be a great game and a huge victory for Treyarch. If the people who make this next game don't take Black Ops to a whole other level, they're ****ed.

F Infinity Ward they fail so hard at making games, thats why I went back to Call of Duty 4 it acctually takes skill to play that game

Well IW doesnt exist so they wont be making the next call of duty game, its some new company i think its Respawn.

The one being developed by Sledgehammer sounds good, but I think it's to early to release another one in 2011, I mean BO was just released.
