Web Browsers are 'the next generation platform'

This thread outlines how Phil Harrison, former president of Sony Worldwide Studios believes our next generation of gaming will be straight from our web browsers.

According to Phil Harrison, former president of Sony Worldwide Studios the battle for dominance in games will not take place with consoles but instead on the web browser but would this really be the best for gaming?

could this really be coming? HD and 3D Gaming from our browser? I am not convinced at the moment as this would require a very good computers to run games such as these at the best of there capability, something that is not available to everyone.

Although he thinks this may be the next generation of gaming i do not believe that it will be alone as Microsoft and Sony will continue to develop there consoles, along with Nintendo and the new Onlive console coming soon.

Phil Harrison also said this after the release of Call of Duty: Modern warfare 2:

So high graphic games straight from your browser, sounds good to me as there would be no buying of an expensive console ( Although you will need a good spec computer to run the games still). He also goes on to say he cannot see anyother competetors coming into the market that could match the big names even with the Onlive gaming system to be soon upon us.

I think we have probably seen the last of the traditional game console companies already in the market. I don't think we're going to see a new entrant who is going to be able to compete at the level that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have established.

I for one definitely think it counts. The graphics on that game, for a browser based game, are downright amazing. I know a lot of people that bash RS, but the way I see it, it's a great game that broke a lot of barriers and beats everything else in it's category.

I prefer my console and will always stick to it. I think of web browser gaming the same as I do Playstation Move, Wii and Kinect, I hate them all and I hate playing games on web browsers, but that just my opinion.
