Call of Duty Getting A 'Second Tier' Of Online Multiplayer?

Actvision is thinking of new ways to make money from their first person shooter juggernaut, Black Ops. A new report is in that a new way to play Call of Duty online is on the way.

The analysts at Wedbush Securities believe that Activision is set to reveal a new "tier" of Call of Duty online multiplayer within the next three months. "Activision remains a top pick, primarily due to the company's potential to create and monetize a second tier of multiplayer online gaming for its Call of Duty franchise," Wedbush analysts write in their January 2011 newsletter. "We expect this to occur during the first quarter of 2011." Yes, that's pretty soon and, yes, they're being awfully specific.

If these reports are true then Activision's March 2010 plans might finally be happening. They want to deliver that "high-margin digital online content and further the brand as the leading action entertainment franchise in new geographies, new genres and with new digital business models."

Lets see how this falls out.

If you read the whole article on the original posting site, they claim that some have been thinking about making a cod MMO. It's not the first time I've heard of activision wanting to milk the cod cow..

Cod MMO? Whats the difference from COD now? People want the role-play of military life virtually?

MMO doesn't necessarily mean an RPG, that would be MMORPG.

I would assume it would be some extra features for Black Ops like new weapons, camos, emblems, titles, prestiges, etc. Just some exclusives. Doubt it will really pick up unless it's something amazing.
