Post: GeoHot Sued by Sony

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So we all know Geohot, the creator of the CFW (custom firmware) you probably have on your PS3 right now and the man who released the root key which is used as a signature to check if the code being ran is Sony's official software.

If you haven't heard, educate yourself about the root key for the PS3 You must login or register to view this content. & about his CFW You must login or register to view this content..

Around a week after GeoHot released his CFW and the PS3's root key, Sony has taken action and filed a lawsuit against him and the team known as FailOverFl0w, a team dedicated to the PS3 that develop hacks for the PS3.

Sony, unlike Microsoft is the only one taking action against those who allow and create methods for pirating while Microsoft simply bans the console they believe is modified to allow piracy.

Charges:

The angle that sony is taking seems to be that they are trying to censor and remove all leaks related to the PS3 instead of simply disabling the consoles like other companies.

Due to the PS3 console being an expensive to produce system and very little profit is made from the system itself, whilest majority of their income is from game sales, it makes sense why they are pressing the specific charges posted above.

Since in this age that we live in is the age of information, taking down and removing such information that was on GeoHot's site is near futile, mirrors of his original site has sprung up You must login or register to view this content. & You must login or register to view this content..
It is hosted on a university's server and was uploaded by a man by the name of David S. Touretzky.
David is a known fighter, he was involved in the DeCSS in which a teenager was sued for creating a program allowing people use DVDs on a Linux system, back in 1999 which was a big deal then.
David also has fought and won in other law suits and even has a site about what to do if you are wrongfully accused of a copyright violation.
The man has the balls, experience and has shown in the passed that he has the knowledge to fight big cases.

I think it's time to sit back and watch as things get interesting.

Sony are just dumb ****s, Microsoft Didn't like the idea about the jtags, and put something on the new dashboard (Not going to get into that.) Which lets jtags still do system link, but they stopped them a little, and thats better then nothing. Sony probably will fail at making a new patch to stop cfw. But there is still a possibility of them succeeding. And yea, sony may not care about CL's. but Microsoft can see the Problem, cheating of the game, dont get me wrong I am a hacker, with PC games mostly, and 10th prestige on mw2, but yea. Whatever happens, happens.

Yeah the creator should be smarter than the ones who use his products. Sony should have thought what might happen if they didnt patch homebrew up... but i guess they cant path the root key stuff cuz u would have to get new ps3 for new hardware

Hackers should keep themselfs more unknown, even though they probably would have cought on. Just seems like his selling himself short. He knows his stuff though, w wish I could have tryed out a CFW myself. :y:

Actually most people are using CFW to run homebrew and back-up games. They couldn't give a shit about level 70 10th prestige lobbies and aimbots. Yes I agree most people on NGU all this CFW means is "ZOMG CHALLENGE LOBBIES HAxOr!!" but thats because this a Glitch site mainly for COD. Go to a PS3 hacking forum and you would be laughed at for asking about Challenge lobbies. It's pretty sad really, most people on this forum don't realise the potential CFW brings. And I can guarantee you it's way more important then a few hacked lobbies on game that is over a year old.

Sony doesn't see that and Call of Duty is a 3rd party developer meaning they dont have an real association with Sony apart from being on the PS3...

Couldn't have said it better myself. Now that the PS3 is unlocked the possibilities are endless. Not just for the hackers but for people who want to develop their own programs for the PS3.
