(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});So we all know Geohot, the creator of the CFW (custom firmware) you probably have on your PS3 right now and the man who released the root key which is used as a signature to check if the code being ran is Sony's official software.
If you haven't heard, educate yourself about the root key for the PS3 You must login or register to view this content. & about his CFW You must login or register to view this content..
Around a week after GeoHot released his CFW and the PS3's root key, Sony has taken action and filed a lawsuit against him and the team known as FailOverFl0w, a team dedicated to the PS3 that develop hacks for the PS3.
Sony, unlike Microsoft is the only one taking action against those who allow and create methods for pirating while Microsoft simply bans the console they believe is modified to allow piracy.

The angle that sony is taking seems to be that they are trying to censor and remove all leaks related to the PS3 instead of simply disabling the consoles like other companies.
Due to the PS3 console being an expensive to produce system and very little profit is made from the system itself, whilest majority of their income is from game sales, it makes sense why they are pressing the specific charges posted above.
Since in this age that we live in is the age of information, taking down and removing such information that was on GeoHot's site is near futile, mirrors of his original site has sprung up You must login or register to view this content. & You must login or register to view this content..
It is hosted on a university's server and was uploaded by a man by the name of David S. Touretzky.
David is a known fighter, he was involved in the DeCSS in which a teenager was sued for creating a program allowing people use DVDs on a Linux system, back in 1999 which was a big deal then.
David also has fought and won in other law suits and even has a site about what to do if you are wrongfully accused of a copyright violation.
The man has the balls, experience and has shown in the passed that he has the knowledge to fight big cases.
I think it's time to sit back and watch as things get interesting.

A billion dollar company is suing over this. Instead of suing, why don't they bring this guy in there to help out with security. I see where Sony is coming from, but in my opinion they shouldn't be suing this guy. What are they going to get out of it? The damage has been done already, it will be impossible to stop the download mirrors, so why don't they just hirer the guy to explain to them what they need to do differently.
This kid is known for hacking. Lets say they hire him, think about it he will have all the Knowledge about the PS3 and everything. Dont you think he will secretly make new hacks and sell them, release them, or use them for himself? Hes a Attention whore if he gets hired he will hack them again probably and want to get more attention.
K. So GeoHot was a big hit about a week ago since people were trying to kiss his ass about him releasing his CFW. Now people are turning their backs towards him and not even doing anything about it. Don't be a leech of his inventions. Atleast be respectful and happy that he had released it. I'd laugh if he didn't release it since people would be crying in the shout box like they were when the FTP Server wasn't released on the night his CFW was released. The point of this is sshow some respect to him and atleast don't take advantage of his stuff then turn your back on him.
I never used anything he made, maybe you shouldn't just assume...
Why they hell would Sony sue for this! they created their own software to be used on the Ps3 which means it's property of themselves not Sony. This is like suing kellog's for putting sugar on your cereal. Sony Is Just doing this to show that they are above all the other companies and are willing to take actions for their flaws. they cant say there losing money because if it were up to me i would say that all this is actually increasing their profits because of all the people that are buying new ps3's just so they can have it jailbroken. If they wanted to end all this they could just make another firmware and put all the ps3's in the retail store at the most recent firmware. I also want to say most importantly that maybe Sony hasn't heard in Japan, But jailbreaking is not illegal anymore. Tell me why sony is the one suing too because all the jailbreakers are doing is modding games they already own such as call of duty and more. don't you think this should be Treyarch or infinity ward when it comes to copyright or any other law. nobody stole their software or even changed anything they already had. I've jailbroken my ps3 and all i see that's new is install packages and other than that everything is exactly the same. so all that basically happened was that someone else who made a software added theirs to the ps3 along with Sony's original. i don't think theirs any laws saying you cant add your own ideas to another.
