In the moments after PSN Network was taken down, but before Sony warned their customers of an ‘external intrusion.’ what really happened? SCEE head of communications Nick Caplin shed a bit of light on the details this morning in a European PlayStation blog. As said by Caplin, the company’s communication was a failure for they did not instantly prepare for the worst. Caplin noted, “"There's a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers' data being compromised.” He furthermore added that Sony knew about the “illegal intrusion” on April 19th, which led to "subsequently shut the services down." However, the official FAQ’s posted in Caplin’s original post stated the knowledge of an intrusion between the 17th and 19th, of April. He stated that after shutting down PSN and Qriocity, “"It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach."
The FAQ in addition notes that the services will remain on lock until Sony has verified “smooth operation.” Sony wants to assure the security of it’s network before going back online. Customers that were looking for a refund are bound to strike out of luck because Sony stated that they “will assess the correct course of actions" concerning requests in such nature when "full services are restored.”
UK's Information Commissioner's Office’s ICO noted in a statement to Eurogamer, “We are contacting Sony and will be making further enquiries to establish the precise nature of the incident before deciding what action, if any, needs to be taken by this office.” One US senator some what campaigned this issue in a political way and it looks like the one’s in the UK are eager as well to follow suit.

So they have know about this as early as 4/17?? Why the hell did they keep it up for another 3-4 days, if there is a possible intrusion then get your sh-t together and take it down before something serious happens like getting PERSONAL/SENSITIVE information compromised!
