Nintendo's 3DS has one substantial feature which made it unique from the mess of handheld. That key feature is something called Augmented Reality.

For those who are not sure what AR technology does, it basically tracks an object in 3D space and is then able to draw in computer graphics over the top. With the 3DS in hand, you can move the device around and it seems that the real image that the camera is capturing in front of you has a 3D graphic existing within it, blending the virtual world into the real world.
Well, not it seems that Sony has came up with a more upgraded and advanced version of AR, calling it Smart AR. Nintendo's AR tracks an object in a 3D space and then draws it computer graphically. After that, you are free to move the 3DS and it seems as if you are "blending the virtual world into the real world." However, the 3DS's camera must determine the 3D space using a marker. For the video below, the card with a question mark is being used as a marker. Now, the trick is that the 'marker' has to be there at all time in order for this technology to function.
Sony has cleverly gotten rid of the 'markers,' so that users are able to really expand with this technology.

The advantage of this new tech is that it can identify objects by analyzing features detected from a portion of the image together with their positional relationship. The benefit of this is that the tech can work without markers. It also enables high-speed recognition that is resistant to changes in lighting or the position of the object - even functional if the object captured appears to be comparatively small in the display. The tech works with photos, menus, posters and other similar objects.
Sony may use this new technology in their NGP. Sony has so opportunities with this technology and I'm sure they will continue to push and innovate newer, more updated technology. Sony's AR is far superior to Nintendo's, making Nintendo seem inferior.
Nintendo makes a profit with every console sold. The reason OtherOS and backwards compatibility were removed from the PS3 was because Sony only gets their profits from people purchasing games, they're literally losing money with each console produced.
Nintendo is also making a console on the technological level of a PS2. Also, Sony doesn't lose money on consoles now that the cheaper to produce Slim is out. Sony WAS losing 250 USD on consoles. Now they're not.

Yet that PS2 level console has sold way more units than the PS3. And, now that I've done some research, I will say that you are correct about the cheaper costs, but I don't believe Sony has quite caught up with the money they've lost on consoles. In the beginning they were having massive losses per console, now they're making small profits. While they are no longer losing money, there's no way they've made all the money they lost on consoles so far. Regardless of how you look at it, the Wii has been making profits since release and way more consoles have been sold than the PS3, the difference has got to be huge.
nintendo cant catch a break can they...LOL. sony is trying to capitolize on anything they can to re invent themselves to gamers who may have left from the psn outage
Dumbass. You probarly never played any of their games stupid ignorant ****. All I say is Mario, Zelda and Metroid, Golden eye, Perfect Dark, Pokemon. Many of these games revolutionized gaming. For example Super mario 64 with 3D roaming on a map. Zelda with its awsome story. Golden eye is also considered most influential shooting games of all time. DAMN FAGBOX FANBOYS NEVER LEARN.
