Nintendo's 3DS has one substantial feature which made it unique from the mess of handheld. That key feature is something called Augmented Reality.

For those who are not sure what AR technology does, it basically tracks an object in 3D space and is then able to draw in computer graphics over the top. With the 3DS in hand, you can move the device around and it seems that the real image that the camera is capturing in front of you has a 3D graphic existing within it, blending the virtual world into the real world.

Well, not it seems that Sony has came up with a more upgraded and advanced version of AR, calling it Smart AR. Nintendo's AR tracks an object in a 3D space and then draws it computer graphically. After that, you are free to move the 3DS and it seems as if you are "blending the virtual world into the real world." However, the 3DS's camera must determine the 3D space using a marker. For the video below, the card with a question mark is being used as a marker. Now, the trick is that the 'marker' has to be there at all time in order for this technology to function.

Sony has cleverly gotten rid of the 'markers,' so that users are able to really expand with this technology.

The advantage of this new tech is that it can identify objects by analyzing features detected from a portion of the image together with their positional relationship. The benefit of this is that the tech can work without markers. It also enables high-speed recognition that is resistant to changes in lighting or the position of the object - even functional if the object captured appears to be comparatively small in the display. The tech works with photos, menus, posters and other similar objects.

Sony may use this new technology in their NGP. Sony has so opportunities with this technology and I'm sure they will continue to push and innovate newer, more updated technology. Sony's AR is far superior to Nintendo's, making Nintendo seem inferior.

Die hard Nintendo fans may think Nintendo has superiority over basically all consoles whereas PS3 fans would argue otherwise. Either way dude, it's an opinionated statement.

All Nintendo has is Mario, but no matter what way you twist it...Mario is still just an old fuk.

You know nothing. Nintendo has way more good games/series.

Truth is nintendo isnt inferior when it comes to games and consoles sold.

PS3 and Wii was both released 19. November 2006. PS3 consoles sold (March 29, 2011): 50 million Wii consoles sold ( March 30, 2010): 86 million

Wii games sold (March 31, 2011): 716.09 million PS3 games sold (June 30, 2010): 315.3 million

Also I think the number of ps3 games sold has increased alot because of cod, and I expect it to be around 650-700 millions game sold for ps3 aswell.

The Low Key OG
still the same OG, but I've been low key
I've already got the 3DS and I'll be purchasing the NGP around Christmas time. I don't see the big fuss over competition. I like the exclusive games nintendo presents and I know the NGP will be a show stopper. Why can't we have both?Happy
