Now this news comes as only a rumor to be sure. I cannot stress how much so it is a rumor, because no one has sited a source. All of this is speculation based upon the current state of the world market and the price drops that Sony has made in the past. Nonetheless all of the gaming sites have blown up with this story.

It is rumored that this August at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Sony will be announcing a European price cut for it's PS3 console. The price cut is rumored to be dropping from £255 to a much more affordable £179.99.

This would correlate to a price drop of around $50 to $100 dollars on US markets, meaning there would be a significant drop from the current $299.

I dont know if it will happens this year, but I hope it does! It will be awesome for people who would like to upgrade their current systems, for people that still doesnt have one yet, and it will be good for those who dont have all consoles yet or are looking for a secondary option!!

My Theory: I personally see the price drop as what Open Minded said as a "Sales Booster". This would help Sony make up the money they lost during the outage that occured last month. I also think they are urging customers to get a console for the mighty FPS war that will take place in November between BF3 and MW3. As this would give them some sales money for number of units sold for both games. Another way I see this is PSN+ will be more affordable as people are not going to spend as much on buying the actual console.However, that is just a speculation.
