To start off I want to make it clear this is no doubt a rumor. There has been little evidence to confirm any of this. Nonetheless, it has been floating around the net lately that Windows 8 will support the play of Xbox 360 console game disks.
You must login or register to view this content. has sited an unknown source as confirming these rumors to be true. It is said you will simply be bale to place the disk in your computer and then a gaming program will basically emulate the Xbox, allowing you to play the game. It is also said that you will be able to access their Xbox 360 Dashboard and Xbox Live service via their computer.
It is said that to access these features on your computer you will be required to purchase Xbox Live if you have not already. This alone would sky rocket Microsoft's profit as it would encourage more users to purchase their Live services.
Now something I have not found any rumors on is whether you will need to purchase or own a PC with specific hardware installed. It seems to me that you would not be able to run an Xbox 360 disk on most current PCs.
Windows 8 still has no official release date. There are new features being confirmed by Microsoft often so all we can do now is wait to see what is or isn't included from this rumor.
So what do you think? Would being able to play Xbox 360 on your PC be something you would use? Would it encourage you to purchase Xbox live if you haven't already? Would you purchase a new computer if special hardware was required to play your 360 games on PC?
This is very stupid. You game on the PC usually for the better graphics and different style game play. Xbox game devs won't put effort into making the graphics pop out as they would their pc version of the game and the game style would be way weird.
Let’s get this out of the way right now: it isn’t happening. Skipping over the technical challenges of emulating a triple core 3.2GHz Power PC processor on Intel x86-based computers, or the huge reliance of 360 developers on the 10mb of EDRAM on the custom Xenos graphic chip – both of which require a level of sheer brute power to emulate unavailable anytime soon on the consumer market – the idea makes absolutely zero sense from a business point of view.
