In a turn of events for Microsoft's revenue monster, Kinect, they are now being sued.

Ohio based company, Impulse Technologies, Is stating that the technology violates seven of the companies patents, including:

"wide variety of games where the movement of a player is tracked in three dimensions…and certain exercise games where the motion of the player is tracked to effect movement of a virtual avatar, and the exertion of the user is monitored, including where the tracking of the player is done by the use of a camera."

EA, Konami, Sega, and many other game developers have also been named in the suit for producing and distributing games that use the Kinect technology.

If the suit is decided in favor of Impulse Technologies, then Microsoft would owe large damages and would also be required to remove the Kinect peripheral from shelves around the world.

Just like any other court case, there will most likely be a long drawn out procession. It could be months or years before a decision is made and the fate of Kinect is known.

So what are your opinions? Do you think that Impulse Technologies is simply out for it's cut of the cash? Do you think that the possibility of Kinect sales stopping would cripple Microsoft?

300 ? THIS IS SPARTA
they have billions so say 300,000 lawyers and yes they have for every section about 10K lawyers Smile

But Microsoft would use kinect on future consoles (or the kinect concept) so it would matter if they lost the case because the effects of the case would come into play

i don't think the halt of kinect sales would effect microsoft in a major way. however the amount of money they payout maybe take a major chunk out of there revenue. Though with microsofts money they will have an army of lawyer lined up to take there case and kinect will not be harmed.

Who?
I hate when nobodies sue big companies. I know that all this court jazz takes long, but a year to file a suit? Especially for something as big as the Kinect? Microsoft is def gonna win the case.

About time somebody sued these thiefs. Microsoft prices are extortionate, they build xbox's with microsoft branded hard drives so that if it fails then you must buy it from them, the controllers, the headsets, wires for the controllers, xbox live are also very expensive in comparison with the Ps3 anyways. Not to mention there attempts to monopolise smaller business so that they don't have to face any major competitors in the near future so that they reap the rewards.

Thank god I don't have an xbox :p

Why is a news thread like this full of PS3 fanboys. Anytime Microsoft get mentioned on this site it attracts the kiddie horde.
