And lastly the most prestigious game of 2011?
Game Of The Year: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
There was no surprise that best shooter would go to Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 3, keeping the call of duty series consistent winners of this category.
As usual Portal 2 managed to gather a load of awards, 5 awards and this again was no surprise for this game.
One of the surprises, at least to me was the sports game of the year, and not seeing FIFA take this as easily as I would have expected.
Now for game of the year it was good to see Skyrim to take the thrown away from Portal 2. Skyrim has had a huge launch and is up there beating modern warfare 3 as the most played game of 2011. (based on hours played and hours per session)
Reading an article online it picked up on a very interesting point about the awards.

Others criticize the award categories, some of which are confusing and seem to exist only to provide an opportunity to honour more games. Batman: Arkham City lost out to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the game of the year yet won Best Xbox 360 Game, despite the fact that Microsoft’s console is the most popular platform on which gamers play Bethesda’s RPG. If categories for specific platforms are to be included, the popular argument goes, shouldn’t they be limited to games exclusive to each platform?
How can batman win the best Xbox game when Skyrim is the most played game on Xbox? It doesn't really make sense about how that was figured out by the panel. The panel is made up of 25 game journalists, which in my opinion isn't the best option when deciding the best games of the year, and it's the actual customers, the gamers who really know what they like.
Overall it was a successful event for multiple games and there were some very obvious winners.
How do you feel about how the winners are decided and the results of the awards?
