And while I do also find it frustrating the transport chopper doesn't have any guns for the pilot (especially when my gunners do jack sh*t), I think it's probably for the best. The whole idea is the pilot coordinates with the two gunners, and enables them to line their shots. If the pilot had a set of guns of it's own (on what I can only assume would be the front), he wouldn't work with the gunners. He'd just go for kills himself (and most likely defeat the whole point of a "transport" helicopter)

They are regularly armed with weapons. However, I view them differently. They are used as transporters, but when you fly over the base, the troops are supposed to jump out. In BFBC2 and BF2, I would fly from my base and land in the hot zone, letting my troops get right into the combat. Then head straight back for more. When the helicopters strafe, the troops would just bail out. It would be a mobile spawn point. The machine guns are practically useless anywho, nothing like the Blawkhawk in previous iterations.
On the matters of the .50, I want it now! They should do DLCs where you buy individual weapons, make it $3.99 and they'll make business.
