As you may well know, a few hand held consoles have already thrown away game collections and have switched to technology that doesn't need discs. If reports about the Xbox 360's successor pan out, you may not need to clear up as much shelf space when next-gen hardware rolls out. An anonymous source has said, Microsoft has told its development partners that the console is foregoing an optical disc drive entirely. The source says the system will have support for a removable solid-state storage card instead, which could be another step toward a digitally distributed future.

In addition to that, it is reported that the system is set for a 2013 launch, which could mean we may see some sort of hardware announcement at this year's E3.

At this moment in time we are all a bit sceptical about the new xbox. It was rumoured earlier to be in the form of a tablet. Earlier reports also distinctively said it had a Blue-ray drive to, but until Microsoft says it is, we won't know a thing.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day.

RIP PICHU.
They just need to add Blu-Ray and make it harder for people to hack their system. The whole, no blu-ray and little kids running around with hacked crap turned me away from Xbox.

I couldnt agree more. Long download times for games and what happens if the hard drive crashes? Digital games hope i never see the day

Digital games sounds stupid, especially with the long download times.

 all the Xbox fanboys begging for blu-ray, something ps3 has had since launch. And is one of the reasons why it's a little more expensive. But it's worth it, I love watching my movies Smile

I'm sure if your hard drive crashes they would have some sort of method allowing you to re-download all your games. My main concern is monthly bandwidth limit. Some countries and ISP's have like 10 gig a month.. I'm sorry but I have been pushing about 50-80 gigs a month now. I do not see digital games working anytime soon, seeing how greedy all these ISP's are.

i wouldnt mind them just switching to direct download games on demand, but i guess its impractical for most with slow internet connections.

Yea of course theyd let you redownload it just like previously purchased items in the psn/xbl stores, i just mean though your hard drive crashes and you have to re download however many games? what a pain in the ass. I mean COD games are are about what 7 gigs when you install them on the xbox? I remember reading KZ3 used all or close to 50 gigs of the blu ray so who knows what size games will be by then.
