Plot

The plot of GTA IV is a very interesting one that jumps around on the "karma train". You play as Russian immigrant and war veteran of an unnamed war, Niko Bellic. We comes to Liberty City (a New York City knockoff) after his cousin, Roman, tells him about the wonders of America and how he is "living the life". In reality when Niko arrives in Liberty City and meets up with his cousin he finds out that his cousin bent the truth a little when he was describing the wonders of America. He discovers his cousin is a cab owner, lives in a really bad apartment, drives a POS care, and is in a great amount of debt with some loan sharks. Niko ends up killing one of the loan sharks for sleeping with Romans girlfriend. That's where the adventure starts. He ends up getting involved with the Irish mafia, Mexican drug cartel, Russian loan sharks, the LCPD, and the African American community. From there he ends up trying to pay off debts for people and grow his name in Liberty City.

Gameplay

The gameplay of GTA IV is definitely that meat of this game. There is so much to do in this game it's really endless. People call the GTA series to be the "Father of Open World Games" and that title doesn't come lightly. The world in GTA IV is MASSIVE. It is supposed to be a replica of New York City, the largest city in the United States, and it really does pull it off scale wise. There are four main parts of the island for you to explore and many different things to do. You could just decide to screw around in the open world aspect of it, go do side missions for people all around Liberty City, jack cars, buy hookers, play bowling, go to strip clubs, get in gun fights, escape from the law, fly in helicopters, do the actual story, and there is much more to do! One of the number one things that people know about GTA is obviously, the cars. You commit Grant Theft Auto on so many occasions while playing through the game. I don't know if it's even possible to go throughout the game without highjacking a car. In the beginning of the game you only start off being able to go on one island but you're able to work your way up through the story so that you can go to the other islands and unlock new missions. The missions that you are able to do in the single player campaign are varied for the most part. You can go shoot up some gang members, deliver drugs, go in races, save your cousin from danger, and much more.

The one tool that you get in the game that I think is the most helpful is your cell phone. This is pretty much your menu for everything. In the phone you can call a person for something, go to multiplayer, read texts, and call for backup if needed. It is extremely useful in the DLC "The Lost and the Damned" because you can call for backup and if you need a new motorcycle you are able to call for one and it is delivered very shortly. Another thing that I love is all of the cars in this game. There are at least four dozen different types of vehicles that you can drive. Obviously they are all different; the piece of shit cars are hard to control and very slow, where sports cars are easy to control and extremely fast. Motorcycles are also a large part in this game, especially for The Last and Damned DLC. They have sport bikes and the old fashioned Harleys. Obviously they are controlled differently and are all very different in control and speed. While I'm talking about cars I should talk about the radio in the car. The radio is amazing. The songs are very good (depending on what station you are on) and the commercials are funny as hell! They play songs based around which station you are on (electric, rock, jazz, etc.) and the commercials are practically based around that as well. The commercials are VERY funny. They advertise a game that allows children to run a civilization that has the Africans as slaves again and for the new top show "America's Next Top Hooker". All of the give me great laughs and I love playing multiplayer with my friends and talking about this. The multiplayer is very fun. You can play standard capture the flag and team deathmatch modes or you can go explore the city and dick around with your friends, which is obviously more popular. Combine all the stuff above with lots more and you get the gameplay of GTA IV, which is nothing less then flawless and addictive.

Graphics

The graphics in GTA IV aren't that impressive and look very generic, but who can you blame when the game was made in 2008. With the amount of area and people walking around the game actually does run very smoothly and it does look very nice compared to other games that were released in the time. Overall the graphics could be worked upon but aren't that bad for what the game actually is.

Overall

Overall Grand Theft Auto IV recieves an 8/10. The story was nice but sloppy but the gameplay makes up for it. Can't wait for GTA 5!!

Thanks for reading, feedback is appreciated, you have a nice day now Enzo

Dope.
Endure and Survive.
I'm pretty sure Niko is Serbian, not Russian.
