Switching your paint is easy and requires very little time, so you can do this while modding other things. I will need help compiling a list of paint codes, but for now I have the Golden Chrome! No more paint chips!

First off, when you open the gt-5 file, hit CTRL+G, and type in :

    0000E840

Now you should see something looking like 00 FF FF FF

The selected code in the above image is the paint data. This is the only thing that needs changing in order to repaint your car.

Here are some paint codes :

Gold Chrome : 01 11 FF FF
Reflex Purple : 00 92 1F FF
Nero Nemesis : 01 9E 3F FF
DefaultColour : 00 00 00 00
Matte Dark Grey : 01 0F A3 55
Frankfurt Gray Pearl : 00 09 1F FF
Burning Red : 00 0E 3F FF
Yellow : 00 5F DF FF
Can-Am White : 00 99 3F FF
Light French Blue : 00 54 3F FF
Dolphin grey : 00 9F DF FF
Aurora Flare Blue Pearl (2P) : 01 9F DF FF
Default Color : 03 FF FF FF (Note, this is the first color the car came in, NOT just very dark black)
Electric Orange : 00 63 7F FF
Ultimate Black : 00 7D 5F FF
Matte white : 05 0F 5F FF
Matte black 05 0F 3F FF

Got the chrome code after repainting a Veyron. I imported it to a GT-R'07 and a Ford GT-40 '06, both have worked.

Of course, after editing, update and recompile the document, replace the save, load up GT5 and go into GT Auto. If the car has indeed changed color, buy an oil change (burn a mile in a new car online quickly before re painting) then go into your garage, highlight the thumbnail of your car, press Triangle, select "Create a Thumbnail" and either :
- Favorite it, and go into the Favorite menu to see it fixed
- Go into a different menu (Simply switching from Premium/Standard or Standard/Premium) and go back.

You now have a Gold Car! With a fixed thumbnail!

Credits :

- Vectriixx, for his amazing tutorials, without which I would ever have done this.
- Bounkass, for being there when I found the code Winky Winky
- dr1ft3r, for helping me fix the thumbnail.
- ANYBODY who has either PM'd me a color, or posted a color.

Regards, Tidus.

If you change what is said, in the garage it shows the color aswell. So only the Thumbnail will not show the color.

I'm going to try one of Driftor's tips, see if you can get away just by changing 00 FF FF FF. Will keep you all updated.

Thanks xXtidusFRXx for the post.

Just a quick question, is this tutorial only for BCUS? or did you base the tutorial around BCUS?

On my version (which is BCES), it seems like the offsets you pointed out are not the same that applies for BCES. For reference I have done a comparison around the same lines for 3 files but have found all three to be completely different of each other.

The first file (on top) is Nissan GT-R Black Edition Tuned Car (GT Academy Version) '12 before it was painted, the original colour that I got was some sort of orange paint. The second file (in the middle) is Nissan GT-R Black Edition Tuned Car (GT Academy Version) '12 after it was painted. This paint is now the Aurora Flare Blue Pearl (2P) which was supposed to the exact same paint that GT Academy 2012 cars were supposed to be in. The last file (on bottom) is Nissan Fairlady 240ZG (HS30) painted in the exact same colour scheme as GT Academy 2012 cars (which is Aurora Flare Blue Pearl (2P)).

Again on the same lines there are no correspondance that neither the two GT Academy cars share the exact same lines nor the matches that the Fairlady was painted in the exact same colour as that on the GT Academy in the after paint.

My guess are that:
- On BCUS versions the lines are completely different compared to that on the BCES. and/or
- On BCES versions that I have noticed, the before and after painted cars does have some differences around the same lines. However, this means that the lines only apply to certain cars or only to that specific car. and/or
- On BCES versions the locations to switch paints are completely randomised for each car or specific groups of cars (i.e. GT Academy cars for instance cannot be treated the same as a regular standard car).

N.B.: I still would like to thank you for contributing this work as it would give me a pointer as to where I should start looking in terms of switching paints. However I am at a loss that the lines I'm seeing doesn't make much sense. I am going to compare before and after paints of other cars and see if I can figure out the differences and maybe post up the way for BCES owners (if there are any differences at all).

*UPDATE* Seems like I've gotten a hang of switching colours. 0000E840 {04-07} is for switching colours on BCES and it seems like its only on GT Academy 2012 cars. These hex changes again for a normal car.

Coincidentally I have accidentally discovered new paint when attempting to paint switch.
00 9F DF FF: Delphingrau [or Dolphin Gray in English]
01 9F DF FF: Aurora Flare Blue Pearl (2P) [Used on GT Academy 2012 cars mainly]
00 63 7F FF: Electric Orange
00 7D 5F FF: Ultimate Black
03 FF FF FF: Default Colour [The colour that came with from the car originally I think, not the DefaultColor which is not the same hex]
