Four paragraphs to explain that, EPIC!
Takes me back to the days of socom and trying to get onto the US servers with my AUS discs, very few could do it then, seems even fewer now on PS3 for obvious reasons. I wonder if others like yourself(tux) have experimented with this especially if you have a CFW PS3.
Heh trying in best way that I could explain it in simple terms rather than confusing it all with technological jargon.
Unfortunately I've missed the boat when I could have went for CFW. I'm stuck with OFW 4.22 if I remember correctly (or whatever seems to be the latest). I'd love to get back into the CFW route as there's plenty more fun things to be had with CFW than OFW.
Speaking of connecting to US servers on AUS discs that reminds me the days of my PC gaming with warcraft 3. With some registry patch I could play the game offline or something. Some bloke with the handle boredAussie created that patch (can't quite remember what the exact handle was anymore now, its ages ago).
I guess something like making a game playable online but not on PSN is technically viable but not without the likes of CFW and rewriting connections (plus a host is needed as well). I've seen IP addresses that my PS3 has been connecting to when I was playing GT5 online and by no means it would be an easy way to bypass (unless one could somehow re-route traffic and then having a node to pretend they are the host PS3 with GT5 is supposed to connect to).
