It might be because you need to replace the thermal paste under the heat spreader.

Wow that's not good. My PS3's are having the same problem also. upon start both are at 75 degrees . You need a new 19" blade fan and some new thermal paste. Both my consoles have never been opened so that's why they get hot. Order a new fan. It's the only way to prevent it from overheating. You can try Control fan on PS3 if your console is on CFW. I always use it when I'm playing any games. Keeps my PS3 from going over 70 degrees. I have the fan speed really high (Gets really loud but does the job, I just play music in the background loudly not to hear it) It keeps the PS3 at 50 GPU and 40 RSX degrees when using Control fan. Order a new fan, put a thin layer of thermal paste and make sure everything it aligned. Make sure everything is flush. That is probably your main reason as to why it got worse. You should also think about getting a laptop cooling fan, that may help. I use one of them and they kind of help the overheating.

Clean the inside of your ps3 and gouge holes on the case of the PS3 above the fan to let it draw more air for the cooling.
