Post: PlayStation problem

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So my PlayStation has had this problem for a while but it didn't get as bad as it did a couple days ago, so the problem is when I turn my PlayStation on it stays on for about 15 - 25 seconds and it shuts off, I took it apart to try and see if I could figure it out but still shuts off and I cleaned out all the dust and everything, does anybody know why it's doing this?

Assuming this console was running fine before it shut off, if it will no longer boot up correctly, you most likely have YLOD..

Your console will need a reflow or a reball, as well as new thermal paste (use arctic silver 5 only) to be repaired..

Well I'm just gonna contact PlayStation because I bought this system about 5 or 6 months ago and I started using it like 3 weeks ago and it just shuts off when I have it on for 15 seconds

If you bought it from Sony directly and what you say here is true "I took it apart to try and see if I could figure it out but still shuts off", then you've voided your warranty. As stated above, if your console does indeed have YLOD then you'll need to either get it reflowed or reballed. You can find out more about this You must login or register to view this content.. Also, what colours come on your console? If it's RED/YELLOW then you have YLOD.

Yea it still works lol, is it possible it does this because it's to cold or to hot in my room?

Either your problem was different or you are very lucky that it has not completely crapped out on you, yet.

YLOD is caused by overheating, due to lack of thermal paste. When there is no thermal paste to transfer the heat to the heatsinks, it will stay in place and heat the chips, thus melting the solder balls under them and breaking the connection.
Change your thermal paste ASAP if you even think you are in danger of overheating. Once the damage is done, it is not always fixable.

No, it's not caused due to it being too hot/cold in your room. Cold would be better though:p You most likely had a different symptom on your PS3. Your method worked, never seen that work before. But, you're one lucky person :p
