Post: Thermal paste and custom casing.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); If I buy a custom case for my console, will I have to change the thermal paste? I have a slim that the guy I bought from says I never need to replace the paste. If I take my console apart and get a new case, will I need to reapply thermal paste?

If you're not separating the heat sinks from the processors then you do not have to change it.

Some say thermal paste lasts around 10 years tops.

I've found it lasts that long for me when applied correctly, but like on the old fats that didn't have good paste it should be changed asap.

If it's not doing it's job we can tell if any unit is over heating and paste might be the culprit, but I don't recommend pulling things apart every few years just to check. I think it's better to follow the, "If its not broken don't fix it" rule.
