(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); To start off, i have a fat ps3 without a blu ray drive, but im putting the original back in it, i am worried something is wrong with the ribbon cable insert of the ps3, it doesn't clip in and barely pulling it will easily remove it. The black flap that pivots up and down broke off, i figured this is what clips it in. Will this still work? I dont have the drive yet so i can't test it out.

What a sucky thing to break. The clip that is broken is actually kind of bar that presses the ribbon cable against the contacts and locks it in place at the same time. I would worry about its ability to maintain a good contact without that in place. I have never had one break on me. If you have a Microcenter/Fry's/Radioshack near you should be able to buy a new connector and replace the clip only. I believe there is only a pin on each side securing that black piece to the connector. Just be careful not to break the new one replacing it. I will look and see if I can find the correct part.

Edit: After searching, I couldn't find an exact part. However, I did find several DIYers that fixed the clip with something wedged in the connector such as below.

Okay guys, I fix PS3 and this problem is a HUGE problem. I know there are videos out there on how to fix ylod (Gilksy's is the best and most efficient) however if you are not certified stay outta the machine, in your defense these clips are a real crappy design and make. Tools you need...

Scissors, tape (DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE) and a 20 BOX of cigarettes (NO JOKE). The cigarette pack is perfect thickness.

Cut a measure the width of the ribbon cable against the pack of cigarettes cut out the EXACT sane width then 5mm long.

Push ribbon cable into place then with the other hand slide cardboard ON TOP of the cable carefully not bending the cardboard or it will become flimsy.

Tape across the cardboard just to keep into place.

Test the machine and if you done it correctly it will work.

Hope this has helped out
