Post: system update error and loop

I try to update to firmware 3.72 via USB storage device and the installation always crashes at 36%
And I get Error Code : 8002F1F9
And now the system is in loop , after the installation crashed the system restart and try to install again
I try to enter safe mode and none of the options there fix the problem
I try to eject the hdd durning installation and it's stuck at 99%
The ps3 tell me that I need a firmware version of 3.66 or higher
can you tell me how to fix it?
also, you can redirect me to download "PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP" of version 3.66

Only way is to reflash or send to sony

That would only work if he could get to xmd but since it happen he SHOULDNT reformat his harddrive because that would erase the part of his fw thats on their which will give him RSOD he the only options are the to i stated above
You reflash with progskeet or E3,etc.

i formatted my hard drive while it had part of a firmware on it. when i put it back in guess what? it worked fine and updated to whatever firmware i had in it

I can't find the 3.66 firmware in the links you attach - they removed, you got another links?
also, can you explain me what is progskeet and E3 ?

I format the hdd on my pc ( I try both ntsc and fat32 )
download fw 3.72 to my usb flash drive ( this is the only version I found )
plug both to the ps3 and the update crash at 36%
if I remove the hdd in the beginning of the update - it stuck at 99%
also, can you explain me what is progskeet and E3 ?

format your hard drive and try to do it that way. if it doesnt fix it, then you need to try and get the E3 flasher or Progskeet installed. They are both essentially mod chips. Progskeet just released one that is solderless and E3 flasher (I think! not completely sure) is solderless on the slim. If you have a slim then definitely go for the E3 because you can have two different firmwares on the same ps3 (3.72 and 3.55) so you have online and hacks. Anyway, the mod chips just allow you to install a firmware straight from something else (usually a PC program) so it bypasses any errors that have been found in the firmware or the hard drive. If you do need to solder, then get someone that is used to soldering to do it, if you mess your PS3 up you can screw it up entirely
