So my question is do i need to recover Blu-Ray playback or is the drive jsut not going to work with the ps3.

What drive are you trying to put in what console?

I remarried a 80gb drive into a 40gb console the other night, got bluray and games running sweet.

Its the the CECHG01 console and a drive out of a 80gb so just about what you did

Ok well what I ended up doing is going from 3.55 down to 3.15 using the QA flag, then using the service mode dongle and remarry tools to downgrade to 2.30.

Worked a treat.

I downgraded form 3.55 all the way to 2.30 in factory/service mode like the TUT says to do it and i still have no luck i think it might be the ps3 itself

might be, make sure (check and double check) the ribbon going into the drive is properly inserted, mine failed drive init until i noticed the ribbon wasn't inserted properly.

Yep made sure it was all connected and like i said it passed but still no response from the drive wont accept disc

Are you sure you didn't drop it and miss allign the tracks? or the motor?

i know it works tried the drive in my ofw ps3 on 3.72 the drive is good
