(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I need some help with my PS3 that my husband bought for our son at a police auction. It says that it is in demonstration mode and it needs the software update, so we downloaded it and tried to install it but then we get an error code of 8002F2E4. I read on another site that it means it's for demo only and their directions say to go to the XMB to enter some code, but I can't get to XMB because it won't let me get past the error screen or the screen telling me to update the software. Any suggestions???

If you ever come back, the best guess to fix this is to do this. On a USB flash drive, create a folder and call it PS3. Go inside that folder, and make another one, and call this one UPDATE. Then go inside that folder, and go to Sony's official website, and find their most recent firmware at 3.72 and download it. Once it's downloaded, place that firmware in the UPDATE folder. (Spell these folders EXACTLY the way I have it, but without the periods.)

Go to the XMB, and it should have system update located under system settings. Plug your USB into the USB slot, and it will ask you two options. Install via internet, or install via USB. Install via USB. I believe that will solve the problem, if it doesn't, feel free to come back and post again and ask for more help. :y:

Edit: If anyone knows how to get rid of a Demo Mode PS3, feel free to post. That was my asnwer. Not 100% sure if it'll work though.

That's what we have done so far, the problem is I don't know how to get to XMB. When I try to install the updated software, the screen says it's checking the software and then straight to an error screen saying corrupted file and the error code 8002F2E4. I can't get past that part. Is there a special trick to get to XMB??? thanks

Try this method. Put the console in factory service mode.

If it's a slim, or a fat system, the idea is the same.

From the system off, hold down the power button. DO NOT remove your finger. The system will beep once, then it will beep again and shut itself off.

Take your finger off, and place it back on the power button. Hold it down again and DO NOT remove it until you hear the system make two fast beeps.

Once you hear those two beeps, release your finger, and you'll be in service mode. You'll have a few options, I'd select the full system restore. You're not looking to hack the system or anything like that, then that's the way to go. Might take about 4 hours or so. Be patient. Depending what's on it, it can take a while. :y:

Because if it's kicking you in and out, it might be the system. If that doesn't work, then you might have a busted PS3. It should work though. Shouldn't be a problem. When mine crashed, everytime I tried to do the system restore, it told me DATA IS CORRUPTED. It wouldn't ever finish the restore. In that case, the system is fried.

It's on Google. Someone mentioned a stupid code thing, but I think hat's a lie. I also found the system restore thing. Sounded logical to me. If that doesn't work, on my lunch break, I'll call Gamestop and see how they get their PS3 systems out of Demo mode. :y: Always a way around this.

Classy.

I think when it ask you to put in a code you have to put in a certain update code. I saw one for 3.55 somewhere...

Not entirely sure though.

In the XMB goto Security Settings. While highlighted. Press L1+R1+Select+Square

It will ask for a 4 digit.

Pre 1.50 ~No password
1.5x ~ 5202
1.6x ~ 7568
1.8x ~ 7712
1.93 ~ 2737
2.00 ~ 0219
2.10 ~ 2464
2.20 ~ 4801
2.30 ~ 6558
After thats done, you can now use the PS3 without it saying "Demo mode" so you can configure controllers, accessories, etc.

Not for 3.55, but the problem she's having is it can't even get to the XMB. :megusta: Only option is to do a system restore right now, and see where it goes from there.
