It could be for 2 reasons:
1.Your bluray drive is broken
2.The homebrew u trying 2 install is corrupt or its signed for another firmware

What red said put a game disk in and see if its recognized.

if you're trying to play a backed up game that's on an external hard drive and it black screens use multiman and apply the bdmirror option under the menu for that particular game. this will fix it.

what firmware are you on?? oh and what homebrew are you trying to open??

Sometimes and only sometimes if you press eject a few times when the black screen is up.... while trying to load the homebrew is may work. if not its to do with the bluray...

like the other guy said use a game just make sure it came out before 3.55
