So I bought a PS3 off someone locally. The PS3's drive is destroyed. There is absolutely no fixing it. The PS3 did turn on to firmware 3.41. I tried updating to CFW 3.55. I ran the update and it started going. It got to around 74% and then stopped. It would error out and restart. Then the ps3 would reboot and try again, get to 74% and error out again. It was in the never ending loop. I then decided Id try to format the PS3 HDD, so I took it out of my PS3, put it in my PC, formatted it, and then put it back in. Now when you press to turn on the PS3 it turns on to a black screen for 30 seconds, and then shuts off. I can however access the recovery menu. From there I tried reinstalling a firmware. First I tried the CFW 3.55 firmware that I had originally tried installing. I put the firmware on USB and put that in the far right USB port. I go to the recover menu then go to the last option to update firmware. There It tells me "checking... Please wait." It stays like that for about 15 minutes or so and then errors out telling me "Serious Error 8002f281" I tried using the official 3.41 firmware that was originally installed on the PS3, but got the same results. I'm completely stumped and would really like to get this ps3 partially working again. I wanted to try putting CFW on it and running backup games off an external HDD. Any help is greatly appreciated.
