I did everything I was supposed to do but it keeps saying "No applicable update data was found". I made a folder on the root of my USB called "PS3", then made a folder inside that called "UPDATE", and I put the UPDAT.PUP in there but it just doesn't work. I even tried it in Recovery Mode. Is there something I'm missing??

First off what Firmware are you on? Second is it on OFW Or CFW? If you don't provide detail info people can't help you.
Here is a break down off what you need to know. Any OFW Above 3.55 cannot be Jail-broken unless you downgrade with an E3-Flasher and it will only work with Ps3 models Before CECH-25xxA Reference You must login or register to view this content. If you are on any CFW from 3.55-4.xx you can upgrade to the latest CFW But know there is now capability to switch from Cex to Dex ( Rebug) Firmware but in your terms if you never did modding chances you have a CEX.

Please listen carefully: To be able to Update to the latest CFW your PS3 needs to be running 3.55 CFW. If you don't have 3.55 CFW already then you cannot do the 4.40 Method. Also please don't try and Jailbreak from 4.40 OFW to 3.55 CFW because it wont work, There are many tutorials around the forum and on YouTube you just need to look for the right one. Everyone knows that you cant just Jailbreak from 4.40 OFW to 4.40 CFW as they patched the usb method after they found out about 3.55 CFW.

Oh I get it now. I'll try to look for the right 3.55 one if they are still working. And my ps3 is on 4.40 OFW I think.. if that means I used the official download provided by PSN. Thanks for your help guys

You cannot downgrade to 3.55 by just downloading OFW 3.55 and installing it on top of OFW 4.40, it doesn't work this way! You have to use a hardware flasher to downgrade, this is only of your model is downgradable. Which model do you have?

No I mean the model number, the one that starts with CECH...
