Post: PS3 CPU running to hot?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My 40GB PS3 Phat model is constantly running hot at 70 - 90 degrees Celsius fan on fast. is this normal? how can I cool it down with spending a bit of the old dosh??

Yeah I am using the fan utility. it goes warm quite quickly... I have a look inside it tomorrow.

When you do make sure to clean out as much dust as you can and replace the thermal compound aswell and reassamble and take a look again, if not you might want to reflow the CPU/GPU aswell just to be safe. Do you have a heat gun, you would need it to do so, but to be honest that shouldn't be causing it to get so hot.

My PS3 fat always was running on highest fan speed, and around 70-80 degrees, then it YLOD'd months later. Currently have a rebug ps3 slim and usually runs around 60 degrees on low fan speed.

Does constant high fan speed do any damage?

From my experience all it did what make it run cooler, but the old PS3 fats are at the end of their life cycle so they would get ylod anyways.

i think this could be why?

i hardly see any thermal paste?? you can see the writing on the chip in the last picture

do you think that this could be causeing the problem?

You can't use a PS3 without thermal paste! You'll ruin it pretty quickly.
